Meeting Topics

September 14, 2021  - Meet and Greet

We will gather together for our first meeting of the school year in a casual format to get to know each other and mingle as we share snacks and friendly conversation. This is the perfect time to ask questions and build relationships with your fellow homeschool parents of every experience level.

October 12, 2021 - Morning Time with Kera Adams

A popular way to begin each homeschool day is with morning time. Morning time offers a reprieve from the daily routine, starting your day off with a feast of truth, goodness, and beauty in your homeschool that is enriching for the whole family, no matter the age span of your children. If you use this strategy in your family, please bring your morning time basket or favorite resources to share what this looks like in your home. If you have never heard of morning time, or you’re not quite sure how to employ this strategy in your homeschool, come listen as Kera expounds on this valuable approach to starting each day reading together as a family.

November 9, 2021 - What About Socialization?

This is a special engagement with Guest Speaker Israel Wayne. Israel, with his wife Brooke, is a second generation homeschool parent raising his 11 children in SW Michigan. He is an author and conference speaker and Director at Family Renewal. Israel will help us delve into the surprising root of the infamous question, “What about socialization?” Please, invite your friends and family to join us as we take a step back in history for an interesting exploration of modern social education theory.

December 10, 2021 - Parent’s Night Out

Our annual tradition of getting the dads out of the house for a fun couples night out is always a great time. Stay tuned for updates as this year’s PNO is still in the works.

January 11, 2022 - Read Alouds with Anna Shafer

What are read alouds? We hear these buzz words all the time in the homeschool world, but what really IS a read aloud? How do you choose a read aloud? Who does the reading? How do they fit into the homeschool day? Join us as Anna helps us dive into the joy and amazing benefits of the simple act of reading together as a family.

February 8, 2022 - Dealing with Dinner with Tina Smith

Food. We all need it every single day. Children insist upon it multiple times per day. Dinner can be an especially challenging meal to plan and execute. By the end of the day we often find ourselves tired and lacking inspiration, but with a little planning we can easily have a nutritious meal ready for dinner each day. Tina will share tips, tricks, and resources that have worked for her along the way as she leads us in an encouraging roundtable discussion. Please bring your own tips and even a simple and nutritious recipe or two to share.

March 8, 2022 - Heart of Homeschool with Crystal Baker

What is at the heart of a homeschool? Is it just academics and curriculum? Or, could there be something more important for us to consider? What about character, discipleship, and the heart of a child? Experienced homeschool mom, Crystal Baker, will share with us her passion. Let’s examine together the real heart of the homeschool.

April 12, 2022 - Alumni: Their Story

We often hear from homeschool parents. Today, we’re turning the table. Homeschool graduates will share their perspective. This is a great opportunity to get a sneak peek into the life of the homeschool student. It’s also the perfect time to ask questions.

May 10, 2021 - Curriculum Share

This round table event is always a popular way to end the homeschool year. Bring your favorite curriculum or resource and share what you love about it. If you’d like the chance to peek inside a particular curriculum, let us know. We may be able to make it available for your perusal. It’s the perfect time to share and ask questions about all things curriculum! Have a curriculum to sell or give away? Bring that, too. Tables will be available. (Be prepared to take with you any remaining items.)

The backbone of CHEBWA is the FREE monthly meeting, open to everyone!

At our meetings, various topics relating to home education are discussed in a friendly and supportive fashion, providing an opportunity for parents to continually educate themselves. Our meetings are often topic-based discussions held in an open roundtable format. Occasionally, we are honored by a guest speaker.

We are always happy to have new guests join us for our meetings!

Here's what to expect when you visit...

* We open our meetings with prayer and a short devotional before moving on to the main topic of the evening.

* After a short break to grab some refreshments, we come back for announcements about what's going on in the homeschool community, such as local events, classes, and field trips. Then we have a time of guided discussion, followed by an open Q&A period. {You can also submit questions for us to discuss at an upcoming meeting using the form below.}

* Following our meetings, there is always plenty of time for you to connect with and get to know other homeschool parents!

If you'd like to find out more information before you visit, please contact us via our Facebook page or our Contact page.

We hope that you will plan to join us soon!

CHEBWA meetings are held at Cornerstone Church in Clyde.
